Where Should My Social Media Campaign Begin?

Your blog is where your social media campaign should always begin!

Quite often we have clients and visitors ask this question and we can not stress enough that having a blog is imperative to their social media marketing success. Not only should your company or organization have a blog, but it should be an intricate part of your website. Often times we see blogs that are on completely different platforms and totally separate from the very website in question. By creating a blog separate from your website you are fragmenting the campaign, meaning you are driving traffic away from you site instead of to your site.

Instead your blog should be a consistent source of relevant news and updates, but keep in mind that blog post don’t always have to be specific to your expertise or even your industry. So when you have fresh new content that needs to be shared it should start as a blog post that is then syndicated to your other social media profiles with clickable links driving visitors back to the your site. This is where visitors can then review the content in it’s entirety. It is here that companies and organizations can begin nurturing relationships and building customer loyalty a.k.a brand loyalty. In fact, we’ve seen many of our clients engagement grow 3 and 5-fold by simply using a blog as a home-base for syndication of breaking news and updates.

So what CMS (content management system) platform or blog platform should you use? We highly recommend the WordPress platform because of it’s scalability (great foundation to build upon), it’s end user friendliness and most importantly it’s ability to garner search engine optimization (SEO). WordPress offers two platforms:

• WordPress.com: Hosted platform that allows you to have your website and blog up and running within a couple of minutes.
• WordPress.org: Self-Hosted platform which requires that you have your own web-hosting account and your own domain address.

In the beginning you may wish to try it out, so in that case WordPress.com is the perfect testing platform. When you are ready to move on and take over full control of your website and blog all of your content can be ported or transferred over to the WordPress.org platform.
